Alicia Sánchez(Martinez) is a dedicated instructor, director, dancer, and founder of the Ballet Folklórico “El Valle” de St. Helena, a nonprofit community organization that provides free dance instruction to youth and adults. With over two decades of service to the community, Alicia has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Mexican culture through the art of folkloric dance.
As a passionate advocate for the arts, Alicia offers her time and expertise without compensation, ensuring that all participants in the Ballet Folklórico program have access to high-quality instruction, regardless of their financial background. Alicia’s Story:
Alicia’s journey in dance and community service has been marked by significant accomplishments, including her performances in the Guelaguetza Oaxaca in 1999 and again in 2021, where she showcased the vibrant traditions of Mexican folkloric dance to a broader audience.
In addition to her work with Ballet Folklórico “El Valle” de St. Helena, Alicia has been an active member of the Spanish Choir for more than 20 years. In this role, she sings and plays the mandolin, adding to the rich cultural tapestry of the community. A mother of two dancers, Alicia is committed to fostering the next generation of artists and keeping Mexican traditions alive through her community-focused efforts.
Her selfless dedication has not only enriched the cultural fabric of St. Helena but has also left an indelible impact on the lives of the youth and adults who have had the opportunity to learn and grow through her instruction.
